I recently upgraded from a rather tired old iPhone to a brand new Samsung Galaxy S8.  It’s a great phone. I love it!

But, it came with a built-in “assistant” named Bixby.  I’m sure a lot of people find Bixby very useful. I’m not one of those people. It’s all too easy to hit the Bixby Key by accident or inadvertently end up on the Bixby Home screen when swiping. Indeed, I found Bixby a tad annoying and intrusive and decided to kill Bixby dead. Poor Bixby!

Here’s how to Disable Bixby On a Samsung Galaxy S8

1:  Press the Bixby button on the left side of the phone to open Bixby Home.

2: Click the three dots at the top right of the screen and then choose Settings.  Ensure that Bixby Voice is disabled:

3: Go back to Bixby Home and click the cog icon near the top right. An option to disable the Bixby key should appear. Slide the switch to the off position:

4: Now, go back to your home screen. Tap and hold or perform a pinching gesture on an open area of the home screen to enter edit mode. Swipe right to reveal Bixby Home in edit mode. Disable Bixby Home using the switch at the top right of the edit screen:

Perhaps you just want to kill the Bixby Key but keep Bixby itself and Bixby Home active?  Just do Step 3 above and leave the rest as is.

Or, perhaps you want to keep the Bixby key active but disable swiping to Bixby home? Just jump straight to step 4 above. After that, swiping won’t open Bixby Home but pressing the Bixby key will.

Resurrecting Bixby

Of course, there’s always a chance that you’ll change your mind about Bixby and decide to give it another go. If so, just reverse the steps outlined above and you’ll be back in business.

If the disable Bixby key option doesn’t appear on your phone, jump into Settings and make sure that your phone has the latest updates.

If you want to keep Bixby active, but aren’t sure how to use it, click the three dots at the top right of the screen and then choose Tutorials. Or go here.
